A city is rarely designed in one decisive gesture. It grows by : one doorway, one shortcut, one market . Its logic can seem , until you follow the routes people choose over the ones they were given.
You can a route before you arrive. On foot, the disorder becomes —a record of small negotiations, repeated until they look inevitable.

on your device
Your pages stay on your device.
The reading happens in your browser. To show a word's meaning, lemmaro looks up that word — not your page — from its dictionary.
The work that decides what to highlight happens right in your browser, so your page isn't uploaded to be understood. When you open a word, lemmaro fetches its meaning, pronunciation, and senses by that word; for genuinely ambiguous words, it sends just that one sentence so the right sense shows. It looks up words, not pages.

The work that drives the highlighting happens in your browser, quietly in the background. Your page is read where it already lives and isn't uploaded or stored.

Lookups are keyed by word. lemmaro asks its dictionary for "render" — not for the article you found it in.

FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
No asterisks, no roadmap hand-waving. Here's where lemmaro actually stands today.
Is it free? Is it really launched yet?
lemmaro is pre-launch, so there's no store listing yet and no fake "10,000 users" badge — what you see is the real product, honestly described, ahead of the public release. You can add it to your wishlist here while the listing is being prepared. The core loop — reading, highlighting, the word card, your Library, and FSRS review — is free, and so are pronunciation practice with the shadowing trainer, named-entity recognition, and exporting your saved words to Anki as a text file. An optional Pro tier adds deeper word-card detail and an Anki deck with audio; you never need it to learn a word.
What does the Pro upgrade add?
Everything that runs the daily loop is free. Pro deepens the word card — richer synonym guidance (which near-word fits the sentence, how formal it is, whether it's a safe swap), per-sense collocations, and a quick "which word fits?" check — plus a ready-to-study Anki deck with pronunciation audio baked in. It's for when you want to move past meaning into nuance; the plain-text Anki export, pronunciation practice, and entity cards all stay free.
Does it slow down the pages I read?
lemmaro reads the page quietly in the background, then lays its highlights over what you're already reading. The page loads as normal; the color-coding appears a moment later.
Is my reading actually private?
The reading that decides what to highlight happens in your browser — your page isn't uploaded or stored. To show a word, lemmaro fetches its meaning, pronunciation, and senses by that word; for ambiguous words it also sends that one sentence to pick the right sense. So lemmaro looks up words, not pages.
Which browsers does it support?
Today it runs on Chrome and Firefox — and on Brave, which installs the Chrome build. More browsers are on the roadmap; the wishlist is available while the public store listing is being prepared.
Which languages can I learn?
Today: English out of the box, plus Ukrainian when you enable Improved Quality — in both directions. The architecture is built to add more languages without re-engineering the core. Word meanings can also appear in Ukrainian, Spanish, or German for Pro readers.
How does it decide what I already know?
Every word carries a personal mastery state — new, learning, familiar, or known — and that's what drives the highlight color. As you save and review words, FSRS spaced repetition updates each word's state over time, so the highlighting tracks what you actually know, not a generic frequency list.
Why was a particular word highlighted?
Open the popover and the "why was this highlighted?" explainer tells you — it shows the lemma it resolved to and its current mastery state, so the color is never a mystery.
